Kitchen Assistant (Full and Part Time). Salary from £13.45 per hour / £25,877 per annum (FTE) depending on experience. The role is based at The Bishop’s Table, a café located next to the rampart walls of The Bishop’s Palace in Wells, Somerset. We aim to deliver freshly made, locally sourced food and exceptional customer service to day visitors, locals and families.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the chef to prepare all food to order.
  • Prepare breakfast service, sandwiches and lunch service.
  • Assist with kitchen clean‑down after service.
  • Support breakfast, lunch and seasonal outlets.
  • Assist with washing up, cleaning and other duties as needed.
  • Work day shifts, generally between 8:30 am and 6:30 pm on a rota basis.
  • Support the café operating hours from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm.
  • Occasional evening work for special events.

Qualifications

  • At least two years of experience in a busy café or restaurant kitchen.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure.
  • Level 2 Food Hygiene & Safety (or willingness to complete).
  • Allergen Awareness (or willingness to complete).
  • Team player, enthusiastic about customer care and willing to learn.
