Clinical Responsibilities

  • Act as a clinical nurse/leader, ensuring patients are assessed, planned, implemented, and evaluated.
  • Supervise and monitor the care‑planning process; notify the ward manager of any difficulties.
  • Lead the ward team during duty periods.
  • Serve as liaison for multidisciplinary and multi‑agency collaboration to achieve best patient outcomes.
  • Provide support to junior nursing staff and participate in the teaching and supervision of staff in training.
  • Maintain the Trust’s aims and objectives within the clinical setting.
  • Ensure accurate, legible record keeping in accordance with local policies and NMC guidelines.
  • Administer intravenous drugs following Trust and local policies.
  • Undertake additional training as required and register any new skills acquired.

Management Responsibilities

  • Maintain a safe level of nursing staff, taking remedial action and reporting when this cannot be achieved.
  • Assist the ward manager in staff selection, monitoring sickness and absence.
  • Assist the ward manager with individual performance reviews of staff.
  • Assist in the efficient and effective use of resources to meet patient and Trust needs.
  • Deputise for senior nurses when requested.
