An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Midwife to join our friendly, credible and dynamic maternity team. We are looking for an innovative midwife who is able to demonstrate a wide range of midwifery expertise and experience to work as part of our governance team as guideline and audit lead midwife.

Clinical Governance, Research and Audit

  • Monitor and maintain quality standards relating to guidelines.
  • Maintain the guideline and audit database ensuring that there are systems in place to ensure timely review and completion.
  • Ensure that there are robust systems in place to demonstrate compliance with national standards, guidance, and policy.
  • Identify, collate, analyse, and interpret quantitative data as part of the quarterly monitoring of auditable standards.
  • Provide regular reports as required for both internal and external governance reviews.
  • Chair Women’s Policy Group including preparing the agenda and necessary administrative support.
  • Ensure that key recommendations from risk incidents are effectively implemented.
  • Support in the investigation of incidents as required.

Education and Service Development

  • Deliver education programmes for staff regarding guideline development and audit processes.
  • Support staff training with regards to Governance updates.
  • Contribute to the education and development of student midwives.
  • Act as a role model always and promote a high standard of safe and effective care which is based upon best evidence.
  • Maintain own knowledge and clinical skills by all appropriate means maintaining professional registration.
  • Participate in the maternity quality improvement journey.

Additional Key Responsibilities

  • Support the divisional team and clinical teams within Women’s Services in the development and review of guidelines and policies.
  • Oversee the women’s audit programme, leading especially upon midwifery audit working closely with the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Audit lead.
  • Manage other projects which may arise from time to time.
  • Advise on changes nationally to practice and support the implementation of such guidance into practice.
  • Oversee and monitor standards through audit and presentation of key performance indicators, including the monitoring and review of practice in line with local guidance following review/implementation of a new guideline.
  • Support the clinical areas as part of the escalation policy.
  • Maintain professional registration with the NMC and keep up to date with relevant mandatory and role specific training.
  • Work collaboratively with the Band 7 Risk and Incident Midwife providing cross cover during absence where required.
  • Participate in the maternity manager on call rota.

Requirements

  • Qualified midwife with NMC registration.
  • Experience in clinical governance, research and audit preferred.
  • Strong understanding of evidence-based practice and quality improvement.
  • Excellent communication, leadership and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
