An exciting new opportunity in the Walsall Healthcare Trust's imaging service. The Advanced Practitioner Sonographer will perform ultrasound scans at a level exceeding those at the enhanced practitioner level, including full musculo‑skeletal, paediatric, vascular, and advanced procedures such as contrast‑enhanced ultrasound. The post holder will work autonomously within the specialist area, producing high‑quality independent examination reports that inform diagnostic and treatment pathways. They will also contribute to the general ultrasound rota in other areas, such as in‑patient and GP/out‑patient ultrasound.
Responsibilities include:
- Conducting specialised scans beyond enhanced practice (full MSK, paediatric, vascular, head and neck).
- Developing and maintaining advanced ultrasound skills, including contrast‑enhanced ultrasound.
- Acting as training and development lead for ultrasound, coordinating training and managing CPD activities.
- Leading regular audits, ensuring adherence to national standards, and contributing to clinical governance, risk management, and research initiatives.
- Providing clinical expertise, advising on complex cases, and liaising with multidisciplinary teams.
- Participating in multidisciplinary meetings and imaging quality and performance meetings to align services with standards.
The role is approximately 80% clinical and 20% non‑clinical, though this ratio is flexible. The post holder will exercise high autonomy, demonstrating advanced clinical competence and decision‑making beyond traditional enhanced practitioner roles.
