Serco Limited is seeking a Ventilation Engineer for the Great Western Hospital, Swindon. This is a Band 6, Permanent, Full Time position (Mon-Fri including weekend shifts with TOIL). The role involves alternating shifts of 7am - 15:30 or 10:30am - 19:00, plus participation in an on-call rota, with a salary of up to £45,000 per annum.

In this newly created role within our UK&E Health team, you will play a vital part in ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient ventilation systems across the Great Western Hospital site, creating conditions that directly impact patient care, colleague wellbeing, and the wider community. You will help deliver a professional and trusted service on a broad mix of HVAC and mechanical systems, protecting critical environments, supporting clinical teams, and contributing to a safe and effective hospital estate.

Responsibilities:

  • Carry out fault finding, repairs, and maintenance across ventilation systems within both reactive and planned environments.
  • Review room data, design information, and commissioning documentation to ensure accurate ventilation requirements, maintaining and updating spreadsheets where needed.
  • Complete room balancing using traverse checking methods and equipment such as bolometers and dampers.
  • Support the management and operation of ventilation and LEV (Local Exhaust Ventilation) systems in line with HTM03‑01.
  • Work toward becoming the Authorised Person (Ventilation) and attend ventilation meetings with the client.
  • Deliver mechanical ductwork repairs and support AHU (Air Handling Unit) repairs alongside electrical engineers.
  • Carry out proactive inspections and remedial repairs across mechanical, electrical, heating, plumbing, and ventilation installations.
  • Maintain high-quality workmanship aligned to safety requirements, building codes, and Serco standards.
  • Record all maintenance activities accurately within Serco Management Systems.
  • Work both independently and as part of a wider team to ensure an effective and responsive service.
  • Uphold QHSE requirements, report hazards, and maintain a safe working environment.
  • Undertake other reasonable tasks as requested by line management.

Qualifications:

  • NVQ Level 3 in a relevant mechanical engineering discipline, plus C&G in Heating, Ventilation and Refrigeration.
  • Proven experience as an M&E maintenance engineer, ideally within building services or HVAC environments.
  • A proactive approach, with the ability to manage a varied workload and support colleagues when needed.
  • Experience in ventilation systems, with knowledge of HTM03‑01 considered highly desirable.

Vetting and checks:

A Standard DBS check will be carried out for this position, including spent and unspent convictions, cautions, reprimands, and warnings as permitted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act. An Occupational Health Questionnaire will also be completed to ensure you have the necessary support to perform your duties.
