Permanent Plumber for the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) contract at HMP Usk, 47 Maryport St, Usk NP15 1XP. A role within a 60‑premises network of secure facilities across England and Wales, supporting the delivery of safe, clean and efficient prisons.
Working hours
The standard hours of work are 39 hours per week: Mon to Thurs 7.30 am – 4.00 pm and Friday 7.30 am – 3.00 pm.
Responsibilities
- Ensure Health & Safety and statutory maintenance standards are met across the contract.
- Perform statutory works on time, ensuring compliance and proper documentation.
- Conduct routine and non‑routine maintenance, including fault finding, repairs, and system testing.
- Inspect, sample water and assess risks to maintain system integrity.
- Repair mains water supply and address life‑expired equipment.
- Monitor the BMS system to ensure optimal performance.
- Support zero‑carbon initiatives and contribute to sustainability goals.
- Perform additional tasks directed by the line manager, including working at height and in various weather conditions.
Qualifications & Requirements
- NVQ Level 3 in Plumbing and Heating or equivalent experience.
- Experience in plumbing maintenance; light plant operation preferred.
- Legionella Control (L8) certification is desirable but not essential – training will be provided.
- Previous experience in a commercial environment is an advantage.
- Prison security clearance is required – Amey will support the clearance process.
