This is an exciting opportunity to join a large, dynamic and forward‑thinking Acute Medicine service at Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. The Specialist Doctor in Acute Medicine will provide senior clinical input into the assessment, diagnosis and management of acutely unwell adult patients presenting via the Emergency Department and primary care. The post‑holder will work across the Acute Medicine Unit (AMU) and the Urgent Medical Assessment Centre (UMAC/SDEC), supporting consultant‑led ward rounds, acute admissions, Same Day Emergency Care activity and ambulatory pathways.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide senior clinical input into the assessment, diagnosis and management of acutely unwell adult patients presenting via the Emergency Department and primary care.
  • Work across the Acute Medicine Unit (AMU) and the Urgent Medical Assessment Centre (UMAC/SDEC), supporting consultant‑led ward rounds, acute admissions, Same Day Emergency Care activity and ambulatory pathways.
  • Ensure safe and effective delivery of front‑door medicine within a high‑volume service that assesses approximately 500–600 emergency medical attendances per week.
  • Supervise and support resident doctors and Advanced Nurse Practitioners, contributing to teaching and clinical governance.
  • Play an active role in service development as the Acute Medicine footprint continues to expand.
  • Support clinical governance, audit and quality improvement activities.
  • Participate in structured handovers and contribute to weekend and evening rota commitments as required.
  • Contribute to educational supervision, multidisciplinary training and ongoing transformation of the Acute Medicine service.
