With immediate effect we are seeking to recruit a Locum Consultant Paediatrician to be part of a dynamic acute paediatric team for a period of 3 months. The successful applicant will join a team of hospital based paediatricians who deliver a range of children’s services with separate Paediatric and Neonatal rotas at consultant and trainee level.
We are looking to appoint a motivated colleague to join a team of 8 enthusiastic and forward thinking General Consultant Paediatricians. The Paediatric Directorate has 24 consultants of whom 8 are acute, 6 community, 8 neonatal, and 1 paediatric audio vestibular consultant. The post is intended to be full time on 8 PAs with full on call commitment.

- Provision of inpatient services for Wirral Hospital Trust. This includes ward rounds and supervision of paediatric medical patients on the children's ward.
- Dealing with paediatric medical emergencies in the A&E department.
- Clinical assessment, investigation and management of children in hospital/community/Child Development Centre based out-patients clinics.
- Taking responsibility on a rotational basis for a weekly Urgent Clinic and GP hotline.
- Medically assessing children with suspected physical abuse in an emergency and liaising with social services and other disciplines over the further assessment.
- Requirement for 1 in 8 on-call commitment for acute paediatric admissions with responsibility for ongoing care in a rotational working system which includes ward responsibilities in the week following the on-call weekend.
- Developing working patterns in partnership with Consultant colleagues in Community Paediatrics, and with Social Services and Education colleagues to ensure that the child health needs are promoted within Wirral across traditional professional demarcations.
