We are seeking an experienced Tunnelling Site Manager to join our growing team delivering major underground and water infrastructure projects across the North West and North of the UK. These projects form part of the water industry's AMP8 investment programme, delivering critical infrastructure improvements through complex tunnelling, shaft sinking, and water and wastewater schemes.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage all on-site construction activities associated with tunnelling, shaft sinking, and water infrastructure projects.
- Ensure projects are delivered safely, on programme, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
- Lead site teams, engineers, supervisors, subcontractors, and suppliers.
- Promote and maintain the highest standards of health, safety, environmental, and quality performance.
- Coordinate day-to-day site operations and manage interfaces between multiple workstreams.
- Monitor progress against programme and implement corrective actions where required.
- Review and approve method statements, risk assessments, permits, and temporary works requirements.
- Ensure compliance with project specifications, contractual obligations, and company procedures.
- Chair site coordination meetings and provide regular progress updates to project stakeholders.
- Maintain strong working relationships with clients, designers, framework partners, and the wider project team.
Essential Requirements
- Proven experience as a Site Manager delivering tunnelling and underground construction projects.
- Demonstrable experience managing shaft sinking operations is essential.
- Strong background delivering water and wastewater infrastructure projects.
- Experience managing subcontractors and multidisciplinary construction teams.
- Thorough understanding of construction health, safety, environmental, and quality requirements.
- Strong leadership, communication, planning, and organisational skills.
- Ability to manage programme delivery while maintaining the highest safety and quality standards.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel across project locations in the North West and North of the UK.
Desirable Qualifications
- Experience delivering projects under UK water industry frameworks and AMP programmes.
- Experience with TBM, SCL, microtunnelling, pipe jacking, and other tunnelling methodologies.
- SMSTS certification.
- CSCS Black Card (Management Level).
- Temporary Works Coordinator qualification.
- First Aid at Work certification.
- NEBOSH Construction Certificate or equivalent.
- Degree, HNC, or HND in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
