The following are the core responsibilities of the ANP. There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels: Provide advanced clinical assessment, diagnosis, and management of patients Manage acute presentations, long-term conditions, and urgent on-the-day demand Undertake clinical examinations, investigations, and interpret results to support clinical decisions.

Prescribe medications independently in line with current legislation and clinical guidelines Provide health promotion, disease prevention, and patient education Work collaboratively with GPs, nurses, pharmacists, HCAs, and the wider PCN team.

Contribute to QOF, enhanced services, and practice quality improvement initiatives Maintain accurate, timely clinical records using EMIS Participate in clinical meetings, audits, and governance activities Secondary Responsiblities In addition to these primary responsibilities, the ANP may also be required to: Participate in local initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient care Support and participate in shared learning within the organisation Develop an area of specialist interest, taking the lead within the organisation Continually review clinical practices, responding to national policies and initiatives where appropriate Participate in the review of significant and near-miss events applying a structured approach i.e., root cause analysis (RCA) Drive the development of nursing services within the organisation, liaising with external agencies and professional organisations as required Develop practice administrative and clinical protocols in line with the needs of the patient and current legislation
