A specialist SEN school in Swinton is seeking a dedicated and nurturing Speech & Language Teaching Assistant (SaLT TA) to support non-verbal pupils and work closely with on-site Speech and Language Therapists. This is a full-time, long-term opportunity within a structured and supportive SEN environment.

Role Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for non-verbal children
  • Work alongside Speech & Language Therapists (SaLT) delivering targeted communication interventions
  • Support pupils using PECS, Now & Next boards, visual timetables and AAC strategies
  • Encourage development of verbal communication, interaction and engagement
  • Support children with Autism (ASD) and Speech, Language & Communication Needs (SLCN)
  • Monitor progress and provide feedback to teaching and therapy staff
  • Promote a calm, structured and communication-focused learning environment

Requirements

  • Experience supporting children with SLCN, ASD or complex needs
  • Knowledge or experience of PECS, Now & Next boards and visual communication systems
  • Experience working with non-verbal pupils
  • Calm, patient and nurturing approach
  • Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary SEN team
  • DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one
