A vacancy at Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. One post is a one‑year fixed‑term contract starting in August, based at the Great Western Hospital Swindon. This is an exciting and unique opportunity for a resident doctor with an interest in education, including 50% Acute Medicine and 50% Post Graduate Medical Education and involvement in simulation.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Director of Medical Education and relevant clinical specialty in designing, developing, delivering and evaluating postgraduate training programmes covering essential clinical skills, simulation training, quality improvement work and trainee support including International Medical Graduates.
  • Provide clinical education for postgraduate clinical resident doctors, including simulation (where relevant) and clinical skills for resident doctors with a role supporting the International Medical Graduate consultant lead.
  • Take part in ongoing research projects or undertake original work under supervision.
  • Deliver bedside and classroom teaching of postgraduate resident doctors.
  • Coordinate postgraduate resident doctors’ teaching opportunities.
  • Support Clinical Skills Teaching and ward‑based assessment for postgraduate resident doctors.
  • Evaluate teaching in conjunction with the relevant administrator.
  • Undertake any training identified as necessary for the candidate to teach effectively.
  • Promote and deliver simulation as an effective educational tool.
  • Provide a source of support, training and specialist advice to IMG trainees as and when required.
  • Lead on the provision of mentorship to incoming IMG and give informal support to help integration socially with their peers and colleagues.

Qualifications

  • ST3 level doctor (or ST5 level doctor at the time of appointment, such as those wishing to undertake further training in medical education as part of an Out of Programme Experience (OOPE) from their Specialist training programme).
