The Assistant Chef also plays an important role in maintaining high standards of food safety, cleanliness, hygiene, and compliance with relevant food safety procedures.Having this position in place will strengthen the catering team’s ability to consistently meet food hygiene requirements and support the achievement and maintenance of a 5-star Food Hygiene Rating.

The role is therefore essential to both the successful day-to-day operation of the kitchen and the delivery of a safe, welcoming, and high-quality food service for students.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with day-to-day food production in line with menu requirements, nutritional and allergen guidelines, food hygiene regulations and high standards of presentation.
  • Cook and serve breakfast and assist with setting up the servery counter and food service, ensuring appropriate portion control.
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness, food hygiene and health and safety within the kitchen and associated areas.
  • Provide cover for the Cook when required and provide cooking cover across other College sites, including Llwyn-y-Bryn and Jubilee Court.

About you

  • Hold a minimum NVQ Level 2 qualification and Basic Food Hygiene certification.
  • Have experience within the food industry, either cooking for small numbers or assisting within a larger catering outlet.
  • Have menu-planning skills and the ability to work effectively on your own initiative.
  • Have strong communication and customer-care skills, with excellent standards of food hygiene and a reliable, professional approach.
