Senior Practitioner Nuclear Medicine | Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust in Surrey

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated Senior Practitioner to join our Nuclear Medicine team at Tameside General Hospital. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Nuclear Medicine Radiographer/Clinical Technologist to work within a friendly and supportive multidisciplinary team, delivering a high-quality, patient-focused service.

The successful candidate will undertake a wide range of Nuclear Medicine procedures, providing expert clinical knowledge and supporting the delivery of safe, effective and timely diagnostic imaging in line with national standards and patient need. The role requires excellent communication, organisational and clinical skills, with the ability to work autonomously whilst supporting junior staff, students and service development.

Applicants should hold a PGD in Nuclear Medicine (or be working towards/willing to work towards) or a Nuclear Medicine degree, with HCPC or VRCT registration as appropriate. Experience across a broad range of Nuclear Medicine procedures and a commitment to continued professional development are essential.

• Undertake a wide range of Nuclear Medicine imaging procedures to a high clinical standard.
• Administer radiopharmaceuticals and associated medications in line with departmental protocols and PGDs.
• Work autonomously within the multidisciplinary team, contributing to safe and effective patient care pathways.
• Assess and justify imaging requests in accordance with IR(ME)R regulations and local protocols.
• Provide expert clinical advice and support to colleagues, referrers and the wider multidisciplinary team.
• Support and supervise junior staff, students and trainees within the department.
• Participate in quality assurance, audit, research and service improvement activities.
• Assist in maintaining safe radiation practice and compliance with Trust and departmental policies.
• Contribute to the day-to-day operational delivery and ongoing development of the Nuclear Medicine service.

The post holder will be responsible for the operational delivery of a safe, efficient and high-quality Nuclear Medicine service, supporting the delivery of timely diagnostic imaging in line with national standards and patient need. Working as an autonomous practitioner within the multidisciplinary team, the successful candidate will undertake a broad range of Nuclear Medicine procedures, including the administration of radiopharmaceuticals and associated medications in accordance with departmental protocols, PGDs and IR(ME)R regulations.

The role involves assessing and justifying imaging requests, ensuring appropriate patient identification and screening procedures are undertaken, and producing high quality diagnostic images using specialised Nuclear Medicine equipment and post‑processing software. The post holder will contribute to patient management by providing expert clinical knowledge and ensuring urgent or significant findings are escalated appropriately.

The successful candidate will support the day‑to‑day operational running of the department, assisting with workload prioritisation, stock control, equipment quality assurance and service continuity arrangements. They will contribute to audit, research, governance and service improvement activities, supporting the continued development of Nuclear Medicine services across the Trust.

A key aspect of the role will involve supporting and supervising junior staff, students and trainees, acting as a professional role model and contributing to education, training and competency development within the department. The post holder will be expected to maintain their own continuing professional development and support a culture of high clinical standards, patient safety and continuous improvement.

The role requires excellent communication, organisational and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to work effectively under pressure and adapt to changing service demands within a busy acute hospital environment.
