Position Overview

Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is appointing four full‑time core trainees in general surgery. The posts are six‑month rotations commencing February 2026 and will be based at the Royal Liverpool Hospital. They are designed for candidates who have completed or are preparing to apply for core or higher specialist training.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in an on‑call rota for general surgery, including night shifts and weekends where required.
  • Provide bedside and tutorial‑based teaching, mentorship and supervision of medical students.
  • Take part in audit, in‑service training and clinical meetings within the department.
  • Assist in emergency and unforeseen circumstances, deputising for absent colleagues when necessary.
  • Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of clinical practice and develop a tailored clinical timetable in partnership with a supervising consultant.
  • Attend outpatient clinics, operating theatres, ward rounds and multidisciplinary team meetings.
