The WIP Controller is responsible for overseeing the management of the entire WIP process and driving the key outcomes within the process ensuring a comprehensive review of all work completed by in‑house and by subcontractors, and that appropriate backup and references are in place, and contractual requirements are met. Being the conduit and working closely with the Operations, Finance, OTC and RTR teams (UK & WIPRO) and client. The WIP & AI Controller is part of the Finance Shared Services team. The role is operationally and commercially focused, supporting contract managers, operations and business development teams.

The WIP & AI Controller will work closely with the operations team to ensure we maximise revenue from existing business and deliver our services as efficiently as possible, ensuring revenue leakage is minimised and working capital management is optimised. The WIP & AI Controller is pivotal in supporting the OTC element of the business. In working closely with the operational and business development teams and being a part of the day‑to‑day running of the business. The WIP & AI Controller will play a key role in ensuring the FSS team delivers accurate reporting of the monthly results, ensuring they reflect the current performance of the business and driving initiatives as required as well as ad‑hoc financial analysis to support business decisions, business cases and bid development. Ensuring we understand how internal and external influences will impact the business and making the best decisions for the Mitie group.

Main Duties

  • Understand and comply with policies and procedures.
  • Compile a daily open orders report to be saved on central SharePoint.
  • Attend WIP review meetings relating to working capital.
  • Be pro‑active in identifying and implementing added value opportunities.
  • Manage conversion of AI to bill.
  • Use different software’s and programs to gather relevant backing documentation.
  • Work with a wide variety of stakeholders to gather/receive information required from all platforms.
  • Work with the client to understand requirements and resolve billing blockages.
  • Proactively manage timely resolution of queries and disputes relating to both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Work alongside WIPRO, making sure that all invoicing is completed in a timely manner whilst making sure all client’s needs are met.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvements on the OTC process to drive timely cash conversion.
  • Ensure timely and accurate completion of monthly reports ensuring integrity, accuracy, and providing clear visibility of the financial health of the business units.
  • Undertake additional duties in line with capabilities as required.

Requirements

  • Good demonstrable interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Be tenacious, i.e. proactively following up on issues and outcomes driven.
  • Advanced experience of Microsoft Excel (Pivots & VLOOKUP essential).
  • Good understanding of day‑to‑day operations of a Finance department / Order to Cash (OTC) process.
  • Deadline‑driven with the ability to manage own time and prioritise workload.
  • Ability to work within a flexible and virtual team structure dealing with key stakeholders at all levels.
  • Good attention to detail and data analysis skills.
  • Good communication skills with the ability to present complex financial information.
  • Experience in SAP/WR1 desirable but not essential.
