About this job:
The role is to cover for holidays and sickness. Female Personal Care Assistant required to join a small private team of three people (including employer), caring for a lady with complex physical and mental health needs. The role is based in the employer’s home and requires a warm, calm and positive approach, enjoyment of simple activities (conversation, TV, gardening, crafts, art), independence and teamwork. Must be flexible, able to provide both physical assistance and companionship, support the client in moments of extreme distress, be quiet and patient while also bringing a sense of humour and quick wit on active days. The client has a large assistance dog in training; applicants must be confident with dogs and enjoy helping with training.
Key Duties:
- Provide emotional support, companionship promoting wellbeing and independence
- Physical assistance with mobility (some manual handling), including the use of wheelchairs
- Support activities inside and outside the home, e.g. gardening, walking, dog training, shopping, tidying, attending medical appointments
- Support with daily care requirements: medication, personal hygiene, dressing, choice of clothes and personal appearance
- Support mental wellbeing, calm challenging behaviour in moments of stress
- Other duties as required
Requirements:
- NVQ 2/3 or diploma in health and social care
- Experience working in a home environment
- Some knowledge of FND, ADHD, NEAD, Fibromyalgia (training will be provided)
- Understanding of working with clients with mental health diagnoses and autism
- Confidence in managing emergency situations
