As a Hospital Porter / Floor Maintenance colleague in our Health team, you’ll play a key part in keeping Harplands Hospital running smoothly by supporting safe, dignified movement of equipment, goods, waste, and essential items across the site. Your work will help maintain a clean, safe environment that patients, colleagues, and visitors can trust. Every task you complete supports the quality of care delivered by the hospital and contributes to a positive impact on the community.
What you’ll do as a Hospital Porter / Floor Maintenance:
- Support the safe movement of equipment, furniture, and materials throughout the hospital to keep services running smoothly.
- Carry out a range of portering tasks, including the movement of mattresses, medical gases, pharmaceutical items, blood products, and confidential records.
- Move and manage waste streams such as general waste, clinical waste, sharps waste, and bulky waste while maintaining infection control standards.
- Transport mail, goods, and materials across the site in line with confidentiality and safety procedures.
- Maintain floors using machines and equipment to support a safe and hygienic environment.
- Report faults, defects, accidents, or near misses promptly and support compliance with health, safety, and security standards.
- Use communication equipment appropriately and work flexibly to support innovations and new technologies.

Vetting and checks: An Enhanced DBS check is required for this role. This includes spent and unspent convictions, cautions, and any relevant information held by local police, in accordance with the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and safeguarding requirements. You will also complete an Occupational Health Questionnaire to allow us to provide any support needed for you to succeed in the role.
