At Glebedale School, we are looking for an exceptional Head of Maths to lead our Mathematics provision and inspire pupils to achieve more than they ever thought possible. This is more than a teaching role; it is an opportunity to shape a curriculum, lead a subject area, support colleagues and make a lasting difference to the lives of young people with social, emotional and mental health needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the strategic development and delivery of Mathematics across the school, ensuring pupils receive a high-quality, engaging and inclusive education.
  • Develop an engaging Maths curriculum aligned with national standards.
  • Deliver inspiring Maths lessons that motivate and challenge learners.
  • Drive achievement, progress and positive outcomes across all key stages.
  • Support and develop colleagues to ensure consistently high-quality Maths provision.
  • Use assessment data to identify strengths, gaps and intervention opportunities.
  • Work closely with senior leaders and the SENCo to support pupil success.
  • Oversee accredited Maths pathways including Functional Skills, Entry Level and GCSE.
  • Contribute to whole-school improvement and promote a culture of high expectations.

Qualifications

  • UK QTS or equivalent.
  • Strong subject knowledge across number, algebra, geometry, statistics and problem-solving.
  • Ability to plan and deliver accredited Maths pathways (Functional Skills, GCSE, Entry Level).
  • Skilled in engaging learners through varied and differentiated teaching methods.
  • Understanding of assessment and how to use it to support progress.
  • Awareness of statutory requirements for pupils with additional needs.
  • Empathy, resilience and the ability to manage challenging behaviour.
  • Confident in analysing data for regulatory and accreditation purposes.
  • Degree-level education and evidence of teaching competence.

Glebedale School is a special needs school that provides provision for pupils aged 7 years and upwards. We offer a nurturing and welcoming environment to SEMH pupils, with a curriculum that focuses on therapy, education and personal development. Our aim is to help pupils grow academically, socially and emotionally to enable them to become capable future citizens. We currently educate 30 pupils from the Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire and Cheshire areas. At our last Ofsted inspection in December 2022, we were rated “Good”.
