We are currently recruiting on behalf of a well-established academic sixth form college in Marple, Manchester for a committed and supportive SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team from September 2026. This is a full‑time, long‑term opportunity ideal for individuals who are passionate about supporting young people with additional learning needs in a focused academic environment. The role will involve supporting students with high‑functioning Autism and moderate learning difficulties across a range of A-Level and academic courses.
The Role
- Providing 1:1 and small group support for students with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and learning difficulties
- Supporting students within lessons to maintain engagement, organisation, and focus
- Assisting learners with communication, emotional regulation, and independent study skills
- Encouraging positive social interaction and student confidence
- Supporting students with classroom routines, transitions, and academic tasks
- Working collaboratively with teachers, pastoral teams, and support staff to implement individual support strategies
- Promoting a calm, inclusive, and supportive learning environment
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
- Previous experience supporting young people with SEN, Autism, or learning difficulties in an education or care setting
- A patient, empathetic, and adaptable approach
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- The ability to build positive and professional relationships with students and staff
- A good understanding of supporting students with additional needs within an academic setting
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting student wellbeing
- Relevant qualifications such as Level 2 or 3 Supporting Teaching & Learning are desirable but not essential
