Prospero Teaching is looking for an experienced SEMH/SEN Tutor to deliver targeted one-to-one and small group support to Key Stage 3 and 4 students in the Stanley, Durham area. The learners are currently not attending full-time school due to Special Educational Needs (SEN) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. We regularly support students who are currently outside of mainstream education due to a range of complex needs and barriers to learning. These students may experience challenges with emotional regulation, behaviour, cognitive flexibility, social communication and interaction, sensory processing, and anxiety, which can significantly impact their ability to engage in education.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver 1:1 SEN/SEMH tutoring sessions
- Plan and adapt lessons to bridge learning gaps and build core English, Maths and Science skills
- Help to engage the student and assist with regulating their emotions in a positive way during the sessions
- Create a calm, safe, and encouraging learning environment
- Monitor and record progress, attendance, and engagement
- Provide regular feedback to parents, carers, and the Prospero Teaching team
Pay rate: up to £30 per hour (dependent on experience and qualifications)
Contract type: Part time, 3-15 hours per week, flexible hours

Requirements
- Previous experience supporting young people with SEMH or SEND needs (ideal for tutors with PRU or alternative provision backgrounds)
- Right to work in the UK
- Enhanced child workforce DBS certificate (on the update service or willing to apply)
- Two professional references covering the last two years
