The Traffic Management Operative (TMO) is responsible for setting up, maintaining, and removing temporary traffic management systems on highways and construction sites. This role ensures the safe movement of vehicles and pedestrians around worksites, in compliance with industry regulations and safety standards.
Responsibilities:
- Install and remove temporary traffic management systems (e.g., cones, signs, barriers, traffic lights)
- Carry out duties in line with Chapter 8 of the Traffic Signs Manual and company procedures
- Work on various types of road networks, including urban, rural, and high-speed roads
- Set up lane closures and diversions to ensure public and site safety
- Load and unload traffic management equipment safely
- Communicate clearly with team members, drivers, and the general public
- Respond quickly to changing traffic conditions and incidents
- Conduct site risk assessments and report hazards or near-misses
- Maintain vehicles, tools, and equipment in good condition
- Complete job sheets, timesheets, and relevant paperwork accurately
- Follow Safety, Quality, and Environmental policies and standards
- Ensure all site incidents and near-misses are reported and appropriately documented
- Promote a strong safety culture, ensuring that all team members follow safe working practices
- Participate in a 24/7 operational rota, including early starts, weekends, and out-of-hours work across the UK
Qualifications:
- Lantra 12d accreditation, TTMBC, 12d (M6 & M7)
- Lantra 12 a/b accreditation
- Full UK driving license (Category B essential, Category CE desirable)
- Previous experience and/or qualifications within the Utilities and/or Drainage Industry
- Good understanding of Chapter 8 and traffic management legislation
- Physical fitness to handle manual work and work outdoors in all weather
- Ability to work night shifts, weekends, and unsociable hours
