A full‑time 12‑month fixed term opportunity is available for a Specialty Doctor in the Hospital Mental Health Liaison team at Manchester Royal Infirmary. The post holder will work closely with the consultant liaison psychiatrist, junior doctors and mental health practitioners to provide core 24‑hour liaison psychiatry service to the Manchester Foundation Hospital NHS Trust.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct assessment and manage patients attending the emergency department and admitted to wards at Manchester Royal Infirmary.
- Provide psychiatric assessment and further management while patients remain in the hospital, including at St Mary’s Hospital.
- Offer medical leadership and clinical care to patients referred to the MHLT.
- Liaise with acute inpatient wards, acute adult psychiatry wards, community mental health teams, home treatment service, emergency services, delivery suites, perinatal psychiatry services, later life services and elderly care wards.
- Engage in Mental Health Act work as required and support Section 12 approvals.
- Maintain a “can‑do” attitude and work flexibly to maximise patient care.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Section 12 approval and prior experience in liaison psychiatry service.
- Experience working with patients of all ages in a hospital setting.
Location: Based at Manchester Royal Infirmary with an office in the Rawnsley Building.
