As a Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) Practitioner, you will be the lead architect of wellbeing for students navigating complex emotional barriers. Working from our dedicated SEMH area, The Grove, and our new regulation room, ROOTS, you will provide a safe and nurturing space where students can learn to regulate and thrive. By collaborating with the SENDCO and wider Year teams, you will tailor specialist interventions that dismantle the obstacles to attendance and engagement. You will empower students to build resilience, develop self-regulation strategies and find renewed purpose in their education. Ultimately, you will play a transformative role in breaking patterns of school avoidance, ensuring that every young person on our SEMH register has the emotional foundation to achieve their full potential.
Duties:
- Take a lead role in planning and implementing specialist wellbeing, behaviour and academic interventions for students on the SEMH register.
- Lead the day‑to‑day running of The Grove and the ROOTS regulation room to provide a safe, nurturing space for students to regulate.
- Identify and overcome individual barriers to attendance, punctuality and learning through regular triage and debriefing with the SEMH Manager.
- Deliver targeted 1:1 mentoring and small group support to assist distressed pupils and those displaying school avoidance.
- Collaborate with the SENDCO, Year teams and external agencies to develop joined‑up care and individual Education or Behavioural Support plans.
- Utilise ELSA training and specialist self‑regulation strategies to help pupils prepare for learning and reintegrate into the classroom.
- Monitor and evaluate the impact of interventions, providing objective reports on student achievement, progress and behavioural development.
- Communicate regularly with parents and carers through home visits or meetings to help them support their child's mental health and education.
- Support students during transitions between year groups and Key Stages, ensuring they remain resilient and engaged with school life.
