About the Role

We are seeking a caring, patient, and enthusiastic Unqualified SEND Teaching Assistant to join our dedicated team at a specialist SEND school in Skelmersdale. This is a rewarding opportunity to support children and young people with a range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), helping them to achieve their full potential both academically and personally. The successful candidate will work closely with teachers and other support staff to provide tailored support to pupils with varying needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, communication difficulties, and learning disabilities.

Previous SEND experience is preferred; however, we welcome applications from individuals who have gained relevant experience through personal, voluntary, community, youth work, care, or family support roles.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support pupils with SEND on a one-to-one basis and in small groups.
  • Assist teachers in delivering engaging and inclusive learning activities.
  • Encourage positive behaviour and support pupils' emotional wellbeing.
  • Help pupils develop independence, social skills, and confidence.
  • Support with personal care requirements where necessary.
  • Adapt learning activities to meet individual needs under the guidance of teaching staff.
  • Maintain accurate records of pupil progress and observations.
  • Build positive relationships with pupils, parents/carers, and colleagues.
  • Promote safeguarding, welfare, and inclusion at all times.

A genuine passion for supporting children and young people with SEND. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Patience, resilience, and a positive attitude. Ability to work effectively as part of a team. Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. Willingness to learn and undertake relevant training. Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEND. Experience gained through personal, voluntary, community, care, youth work, or family support settings. Understanding of Autism, ADHD, SEMH, or other additional needs. Relevant qualifications in education, childcare, health and social care, or related fields.
