An exciting opportunity has arisen for band 6 sister/charge nurses on Ward 19. The successful candidates' base ward will be Ward 19, but they will be expected to work within the Children's Assessment unit, Children Medical Day unit and Day Surgery unit when required. The successful candidates will have clinical credibility, excellent communication and organisational skills and a positive approach to change. They will assist the Ward Managers in the running of our Children's Unit which consists of a 33 bedded inpatient ward, an Oncology and Haematology Unit, a Children’s Assessment Unit, Two Children’s Outpatient Departments, a Children’s Medical Day Unit and Paediatric Day Surgery service. The right individuals will have a passion for service improvement and innovation for Paediatric care within the Trust. They will help assist and guide the team through positive change as we embark on our current and future journey. Responsibilities

  • To function as a clinical practitioner within their designated clinical area.
  • To deliver direct patient care whilst co-ordinating and overseeing nursing practice.
  • To be responsible for ensuring the delivery of clinical activities during their span of duty.
  • To ensure that there is efficient and effective utilisation of resources to deliver optimum quality care to their client group.
  • To deputise for the ward/department manager in his/her absence, driving forward evidence based practice and taking responsibility for the supervision of staff.

Our Service will relocate to The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital in 2028 as part of HTP. This move will bring specialist services together in a modern, purpose-built facility to improve patient care and team experience. We are actively recruiting, and successful candidates will be expected to move with the Service in early 2028. The relocation will follow a formal management of change process, including full consultation and support for staff.
