- Hours: 40 hours per week Shift Pattern: 5 out of 7 days (7:00am - 3:30pm or 11:30am - 8pm) Weekend on Weekend off Check your local transport links here: Plan Your Journey | Traveline Job Introduction: Do you take pride in keeping kitchens clean, safe, and running efficiently?Join Sodexo as a Kitchen Porter at Shrewsbury school and play a key role behind the scenes by maintaining cleanliness, supporting the chefs, and ensuring equipment and workspaces are ready for service.You’ll provide back of house support for our hospitality, breakfast, lunch, and supper for our students, staff & visitors and ensuring that our dining services continue to be a pillar of our school community.
As well as maintain hygiene standards and contribute to a positive dining experience What You’ll Do: Wash and sanitise all crockery, cutlery, kitchen utensils, equipment, and food service items, ensuring they are clean and ready for use.
Maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene in all catering areas.
Help with the setup and clearing of dining areas.
Engage positively with students and staff, promoting a welcoming dining atmosphere.
Adhere to all health and safety regulations and food safety standards.
Assist with cleaning and organising fridges and freezers, and ensure food storage areas remain safe and hygienic.
Crush and dispose of cardboard and packaging safely, keeping waste areas tidy and compliant with procedures.
Follow all health and safety, fire, food hygiene, and COSHH regulations, using the correct chemicals at all times.
Report accidents, near misses, and any equipment or chemical shortages promptly to the Chef or Supervisor.
What You Bring: A positive, can-do attitude with a commitment to keeping work environments clean, safe, and organised.
Good communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to support colleagues and follow instructions efficiently.
The ability to work reliably under pressure while maintaining high standards of hygiene and cleanliness.
A basic Food Hygiene Certificate (or willingness to work towards one) An Enhanced DBS clearance is required and will be carried out.
A proactive and dependable approach, with a willingness to learn, develop skills, and help improve kitchen operations.
Previous experience in a catering, hospitality, or food service environment, particularly in a school or similar setting, is desirable but not essential.
