We are looking for an experienced and driven Shift Manager to join our chilled food manufacturing operation in Ebbw Vale. Reporting to the Production Manager, you’ll play a key leadership role in delivering safe, efficient, and high-quality production while creating a positive and high-performing team culture. This is an exciting opportunity for a strong people manager with a passion for operational excellence, food safety, continuous improvement, and developing teams within a fast-moving manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
- Lead the daily production operation, ensuring customer expectations, quality standards, and production targets are consistently achieved.
- Lead, motivate, and supervise production teams to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient operations.
- Deliver daily production targets, KPIs, output volumes, and quality standards.
- Maximise productivity by coordinating labour, materials, and equipment effectively.
- Drive food safety, GMP, HACCP, hygiene, and health & safety compliance at all times.
- Monitor production performance and resolve operational issues quickly and effectively.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on reducing waste, downtime, and inefficiencies.
- Conduct shift handovers and communicate operational priorities clearly across teams.
- Coach, train, and develop team members, including succession planning and skills development.
- Manage attendance, performance, employee engagement, and disciplinary processes where required.
- Work collaboratively with Engineering, Quality, Warehouse, and Planning teams to maintain smooth production flow.
- Ensure accurate completion of production records, compliance documentation, and reporting.
- Promote a positive safety-first culture and maintain excellent housekeeping standards.
- Lead by example and build strong cross-functional relationships across the site.
Qualifications
- Previous experience as a Shift Manager, Production Supervisor, or similar leadership role within food manufacturing.
- Strong understanding of chilled food production environments.
- Excellent knowledge of Food Safety, HACCP, GMP, and Health & Safety standards.
- Proven ability to lead teams, manage performance, and drive engagement.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Experience delivering against production KPIs and operational targets.
- Food Safety or Health & Safety qualifications.
- Eligibility to legally work in the UK.
