Join a global, multi-disciplinary consultancy at the forefront of sustainable real estate and low-carbon design. This is a senior role for a commercially astute sustainability expert who can shape strategies, lead complex certification projects, and influence decision-makers across private equity, developers and the public sector. You will work with high-profile clients to deliver measurable environmental performance and long-term value across diverse property portfolios.

About the Role

You will lead the delivery of sustainability and certification projects across new construction, existing buildings and fit-out schemes, providing strategic guidance from early concept through to operation. Acting as a trusted advisor, you will translate technical insights into clear, commercially relevant recommendations that drive decarbonisation and enhance asset value. You will also play a key role in developing client relationships, mentoring junior consultants and contributing to the growth of the sustainability offering.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage BREEAM In-Use and BREEAM New Construction assessments across multiple asset types and project stages.
  • Deliver and coordinate WELL, Fitwel and SKA certification projects, including strategy development, evidence collation and liaison with assessors/certification bodies.
  • Undertake energy modelling and whole life carbon assessments, interpreting results to inform design decisions and portfolio-level strategies.
  • Use One Click LCA to model embodied and operational carbon, benchmark performance and support net zero carbon roadmaps.
  • Develop sustainability frameworks and ESG strategies for private equity clients, developers and public sector organisations, aligned with their investment and policy objectives.
  • Prepare clear, client-ready reports, presentations and board-level briefings that communicate technical findings and recommendations.
  • Lead client meetings and workshops, managing expectations, identifying new opportunities and ensuring high levels of client satisfaction.
  • Support internal knowledge development, mentoring junior team members and contributing to service innovation and best practice.

Key Requirements

  • Significant experience in sustainability consultancy within the built environment, with a track record of leading certification and decarbonisation projects.
  • Proven hands-on experience delivering BREEAM In-Use and BREEAM New Construction projects.
  • Strong practical experience with WELL and/or Fitwel, including project delivery from concept to certification.
  • Demonstrable experience conducting energy modelling and whole life carbon assessments for buildings.
  • Proficiency with One Click LCA or similar LCA tools in a project delivery context.
  • Experience working with private equity investors, property developers and/or public sector clients on sustainability or ESG initiatives.
  • Strong client management skills, including the ability to manage multiple stakeholders and competing priorities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly to non-technical audiences.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience delivering SKA assessments for fit-out projects.
  • Familiarity with wider ESG reporting frameworks and disclosure requirements relevant to real estate.
  • Understanding of net zero carbon standards and transition planning for property portfolios.
  • Experience in business development, proposal writing and contributing to new service offerings.
  • Line management or mentoring experience within a consultancy environment.

Qualifications

  • Degree in a relevant discipline such as Sustainability, Environmental Science, Building Services Engineering, Architecture or related field.
  • Professional qualification in BREEAM assessments (e.g. BREEAM UK NC or In-Use) strongly preferred.
  • WELL AP, Fitwel Ambassador or similar building wellness accreditation desirable.
  • Additional training or certification in energy modelling, LCA or carbon management advantageous.
  • Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g. CIBSE, IEMA, RICS, UKGBC) preferred.
