Wrightington, Wigan & Leigh NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to recruit a Senior Healthcare Support Worker for the Enhanced Care Unit (ECU). This role involves being part of a multidisciplinary team providing holistic, high-quality care to orthopaedic patients at increased risk of adverse outcomes.
The Enhanced Care Unit is a 6-bedded post-operative unit that provides an advanced level of care for patients post-surgery. The service operates 24/7 with various shift patterns including early and late shifts and 12-hour shifts. This role is 24 hours per week, working across Monday to Sunday with day and night shifts.
Experience in a UK healthcare/NHS role is essential, along with either Health & Social Care Level 2 NVQ or Care Certificate. As a Healthcare Support Worker, you will play a vital role in delivering high standards of care, working closely with a multi-disciplinary team to ensure all patients are treated with dignity and respect.
Your duties will include:
- Assisting patients with personal hygiene and during meal times.
- Communicating effectively with patients, carers, and the wider team.
- Supporting moving and handling, use of mobility aids, and assessing pressure areas.
- Maintaining confidentiality and reporting any concerns to the Registered Health Care Professional.
- Assisting with dietary needs and undertaking safe venepuncture and cannulation as required.
- Participating in health promotion and maintaining a clean environment.
- Engaging with other agencies and community teams for patient admission and discharge.
- Adhering to organisational policies and procedures.
Training includes undertaking procedures as directed by a Registered Health Care Professional after completing an Accredited NVQ 3 (or equivalent) programme. You will also be expected to maintain accurate records and communicate effectively with all members of the multidisciplinary team.
All staff have a duty of care to safeguard and protect vulnerable adults, children, and young people. The role requires physical skills, including manual handling of individuals and equipment in line with organisational guidelines.
