Overview
IPS Group is recruiting a Senior Underwriter to join a growing renewals underwriting team within a well‑established insurance business. The business has experienced strong growth, with GWP doubling over the past 7 years, driving continued expansion across the underwriting teams. The underwriting approach is focused on disciplined risk selection, supporting strong renewal retention and a stable, high‑quality portfolio. This is an open‑market, broker‑traded role, working with both national and independent brokers across a broad mix of sectors, including care, heritage, real estate, professions and faith, among others. The role offers exposure to varied and diverse books rather than a single niche.
Responsibilities
- Manage a book of renewals ranging from £5k to £500k premium, with around 10 renewals per month and account management of larger, more complex cases.
- Conduct broker meetings and occasional site visits alongside surveyors, with an expectation of approximately 12 broker visits per year.
- Provide market‑facing activity and support broker development.
- Generate renewal proposals and work closely with underwriting teams to ensure risk selection and portfolio quality.
Qualifications
- Experience in open market underwriting, confident in managing complex cases and engaging directly with brokers.
- Exposure to training or desk‑based underwriting considered beneficial.
- Strong commercial mindset and ability to work in a hybrid environment (3 days per week in the office).
