We are supporting a specialist education setting in Tameside to recruit a Science Teacher for three days per week from September.

This permanent, part-time opportunity could be ideal if you're looking for a better balance or if you're ready to take your Science teaching experience into a smaller, more personalised environment.

Your Classroom Will Be Different You'll teach Science to young people with SEND and SEMH needs, some of whom may have found a traditional mainstream classroom difficult.

That means great teaching here isn't simply about delivering the curriculum.

It's about understanding the pupil in front of you, finding different ways to engage them and gradually helping them rebuild their confidence in learning.

You'll have small class sizes, giving you greater opportunity to understand individual strengths, needs and barriers.

Your role will include:

Planning and delivering engaging Science lessons.

Adapting lessons, resources and activities around individual needs.

Making Science accessible to pupils with different abilities and starting points.

Creating a calm, structured and predictable classroom environment.

Building positive and trusting relationships with pupils.

Supporting young people with SEND, SEMH and barriers to learning.

Encouraging curiosity, participation and positive attitudes towards education.

Helping pupils develop confidence and greater independence.

Monitoring progress and contributing to individual learning plans.

Working closely with teaching, support and pastoral colleagues.

Progress won't always look the same here.

For one pupil, success might be mastering a difficult scientific concept.

For another, it could be staying engaged for an entire lesson, asking a question or having the confidence to try something they previously avoided.

Could Specialist Education Be Your Next Step?

You don't necessarily need to have spent your career working in SEND. You might be an experienced mainstream Science Teacher who's become interested in SEND, SEMH or alternative provision and would like the opportunity to teach in a different way.

We're looking for someone who can combine strong Science subject knowledge with patience, consistency and the ability to adapt.

You'll ideally have:

Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

Experience teaching Science within a UK school.

An understanding of SEND and/or SEMH, either through professional or relevant experience.

Strong adaptive teaching and differentiation skills.

The ability to establish calm and consistent expectations.

Good communication and relationship-building skills.

Patience, resilience and an encouraging approach.

A genuine desire to help young people overcome barriers to education.

Previous experience within SEND, SEMH, alternative provision or specialist education would be particularly valuable, but it isn't the only route into this opportunity.
