Applications are invited for a candidate to work within the department of Ageing and Complex Medicine in the Division of Integrated Care of the Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust (NCA) for a 12-month period starting in August 2026. This is a fantastic opportunity for a trainee geriatrician to develop as a medical educator.
The post holder will work with a consultant with an interest in medical education to deliver teaching to undergraduate medical students in ageing and complex health. They would be supported to deliver small group teaching and bedside teaching as well as gaining an insight into curriculum design and implementation. There will also be opportunities to develop new educational material in this area and to participate in medical education research. You would also provide some clinical cover within the department.
You should be able to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team and demonstrate commitment and enthusiasm for working with older adults in a variety of settings. The role does not entail any regular commitment to the on-call Rota or out of hours working.
The directorate currently comprises:
- 3 Acute Ageing and Complex Medicine (ACM) Wards
- Specialist Parkinson’s Disease & Complex Care of the Elderly outpatient clinics
- Frailty Zone on the Emergency Assessment Unit (EAU)
- Emergency Department in-reach
- Frailty SDEC
- Community Services
- Ortho-geriatric Service
- General Surgery and Trauma Liaison Services
The post holder will be responsible alongside the clinical placement supervisors for the delivery of the ageing and complex health module as part of Manchester medical schools ageing and complex health curriculum. This includes bedside clinical teaching, classroom-based teaching, curriculum and teaching materials design and experience in assessment. Students are present for 32 weeks of the year so for the remaining 20 weeks the post-holder would work as a senior clinical fellow within Ageing & Complex Medicine, with the opportunity to work across a number of core or subspecialty areas including acute frailty, orthogeriatric, trauma, surgical liaison, and community geriatrics.
