About this job

We’re looking for a compassionate and understanding male Personal Carer to support a 16‑year‑old boy with autism. This role focuses on providing supervision and gentle guidance to ensure his safety and well‑being during daily activities and outings.

Responsibilities

  • Provide attentive supervision during walks, tram rides, city centre explorations, and other outings.
  • Encourage hydration and meals, gently reminding him to drink water and eat snacks or meals.
  • Understand and respect his sensory needs, allowing for brief jumps or steps ahead as part of his sensory diet without becoming alarmed.
  • Respond promptly to his needs, particularly for toilet breaks and other communicated requests.
  • Promote independence in self‑care while offering necessary oversight and support.
  • Gradually encourage him to walk independently without holding hands, building on progress already made with his father.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Must be male.
  • Must possess a valid UK driving licence and have access to a car.
  • Current DBS check required (or willingness to obtain one).
  • Patient, understanding, observant, calm, reliable, punctual, and active.
  • Experience working with individuals with autism or similar conditions is preferred.
  • BSL skills not required but preferred.
  • No specific qualification required.

Hours & Pay

  • Contract type: Permanent, Part‑time.
  • Hours: 16 hours per week during term time; 26 hours per week during holidays.
  • Hourly rate: £12.21.
  • Flexible scheduling acceptable to meet the client’s and PA’s availability.
