Availability Window: Sun 18:00–22:00; Tue 09:00–19:00; Fri 07:00–23:00; Sat 19:00–23:00. The Customer Delivery Driver rate of pay starts from £13.35 per hour and increases to £14.56 for stores inside the M25. Additional payments may apply depending on location. It is our policy to offer new colleagues a minimum of 16 guaranteed hours each week; if you’d like to work fewer hours (to a minimum of 12), there are opportunities for this too.

Customers are at the heart of everything we do. As the face of Tesco out on the road, we deliver from Lands End to John O’Groats. Our Delivery Drivers meet and talk to customers in their homes every day. This role is about more than just driving: it’s about helping others and delivering great service with a smile. It’s hands-on, physical and full of variety. No two shifts are the same, and customers look for help in many different ways. For most of the day you’ll feel like your own boss, delivering to customers, with a team of Managers and colleagues back at base for support when needed. Responsibilities include:

  • Delivering your part of the customer shopping trip and ensuring the van and trays are clean, tidy and organised.
  • Leaving the back yard clean, tidy and clear of rubbish, and picking up litter as you see it.
  • Ensuring trays are washed as part of the tray wash process.
  • Loading the van, checking the van for roadworthiness.
  • Talking to customers about any changes to their order, including substitutions, offering refunds for items they are unhappy with.
  • Taking care of products/deliveries as if they were your own.
  • Explaining substitutions to customers so they are not charged more.
  • Delivering within the customer’s time slot and calling the customer before arriving if early.
  • Calling the store/centre if you are running 30 minutes or more late.
  • Building relationships with colleagues to create team spirit and ensure the store is the best it can be for customers.
  • Maintaining a warm and welcoming interaction with customers and colleagues, understanding customer needs and embracing change.
  • Being energetic and driven to deliver beyond expectations and balance home and work.
  • Sharing ideas with your Manager and colleagues on how to improve the store for customers.

Qualifications:

  • A valid UK/EU/EEA Driving Licence (Full or Automatic only) for at least 12 months with no more than 3 penalty points.
  • Ability to build relationships with colleagues and provide excellent customer service.
  • Flexibility to work the advertised availability windows.
