Horizons College is an innovative and inclusive specialist education provider for learners aged 16-25 with learning difficulties and complex needs. We proudly opened our campus in Royal Wootton Bassett’s Interface Business Park in September 2022 and were rated "Good" by Ofsted in March 2024.

Do you believe counselling should be creative, flexible and truly person-centred? Are you the kind of practitioner who thinks beyond the traditional therapy room and adapts your approach to meet each individual where they are? We are seeking an innovative and compassionate College Counsellor to join our dedicated team at our specialist SEND college here at Horizons. This is a unique opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young people with a wide range of additional needs.

In this role, you will work closely with learners, families and multi-disciplinary colleagues to provide emotionally informed, trauma-aware support that helps our students feel safe, understood and empowered. No two days are the same and that’s exactly how we like it.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Thinks creatively and is willing to try new approaches
  • Adapts their counselling style to suit diverse communication needs
  • Builds strong, trusting relationships with young people
  • Is reflective, curious and open to learning
  • Thrives as part of a supportive, collaborative team

Experience within SEND, neurodiversity or alternative therapeutic approaches would be an advantage, but we are equally keen to hear from practitioners who bring fresh ideas, warmth, and a genuine passion for inclusive practice.

In return, we offer:

  • A welcoming and values-driven college community
  • The chance to shape and develop an evolving counselling service
  • A role where your creativity and individuality are genuinely valued

If you are motivated by impact rather than routine and believe counselling should be as individual as the young people you support, we would love to hear from you. At Horizons College, our mission is clear: Empowering learners to shape their future, and this role is critical in helping us achieve that vision.

If this mission resonates with you as an education professional ready for the next step in your career, we want to hear from you.

Hours: 26 per week

Training: It is important to us to ensure you feel valued and supported. Full training appropriate to the role will be provided.

Benefits: Brunel Academies Trust is a rapidly developing Multi Academy Trust. We value our colleagues and the effort they put into our children and young people day in and out. Whether through continuous professional development (CPD) to feed your ambitions, personal and impartial support through challenging days or exciting and easy to use discounts to enjoy with friends and family, we have a package of excellent benefits which are available to all staff including:

  • Support on continuous professional development (CPD) opportunities
  • Brunel Perks - exclusive discounts on a range of products and retailers from cinema tickets, food shopping and holidays
  • Carefirst - impartial counselling service in person, by video call or phone as well as a citizen’s advice function for advice and support on personal or professional queries
  • Excellent pension scheme
  • Free on-site parking
  • Annual pay progression opportunities
  • Continuous Service Date honoured

Most importantly, we can promise that you will achieve a high level of job satisfaction through the professional family community our colleagues represent; and the positive impact your role will have on supporting and developing our children and young people’s futures.

Potential talent for this exciting opportunity are warmly invited and encouraged to visit our setting to explore how unique and inspirational our children and team really are.
