About the Role

As Home Manager, you will hold overall responsibility for the operational, clinical, and financial performance of the home. You will lead and develop the care team, oversee care planning and assessments, and ensure the service remains fully compliant with CQC regulations. Your work will directly influence resident wellbeing, staff engagement, and the reputation of the home within the local community.

Responsibilities

  • Provide visible leadership and day‑to‑day management of the care home, ensuring safe, effective, and compassionate care.
  • Oversee person‑centred care planning and assessment processes, ensuring documentation is accurate, up to date, and reflects residents’ needs and preferences.
  • Manage the home’s budget, including staffing, resources, and expenditure, to achieve financial targets without compromising quality.
  • Lead on safeguarding and risk management, ensuring concerns are identified, reported, investigated, and acted upon promptly.
  • Maintain full compliance with CQC regulations and standards, preparing for and responding to inspections and regulatory visits.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with residents, families, external professionals, and other stakeholders, ensuring clear and timely communication.
  • Implement and monitor quality assurance and auditing systems, driving continuous improvement in care delivery and operational processes.
  • Recruit, supervise, coach, and appraise staff, fostering a positive, accountable, and high‑performing team culture.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in a Home Manager or Deputy Manager role within a residential or nursing care setting.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with a track record of developing and motivating staff.
  • Demonstrable experience in care planning and assessment, with a focus on person‑centred approaches.
  • Solid experience of budgeting and financial management within a care home or similar environment.
  • In‑depth understanding of safeguarding, risk management, and incident reporting within adult social care.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of CQC regulations, Key Lines of Enquiry (KLOEs), and current best practice in care.
  • Confidence in liaising with families, professionals, and external agencies, handling sensitive issues with professionalism.
  • Skilled in using care management systems and maintaining accurate, compliant records.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience of turning around or improving CQC ratings in a care home setting.
  • Background in leading quality improvement initiatives and change management projects.
  • Familiarity with commissioning processes and local authority or NHS contracting arrangements.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret audit data and implement targeted action plans.

Qualifications

  • Relevant health and social care qualification (e.g. Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care or equivalent).
  • Registered Manager Award or equivalent leadership/management qualification in social care (or willingness to work towards).
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development in areas such as safeguarding, dementia care, or quality improvement.
  • Eligibility to register with CQC as a Registered Manager, where required.
