A leading international law firm with a strong reputation in insurance and dispute resolution is seeking an Associate to join its growing Professional Indemnity team in Birmingham. The firm advises insurer, professional services and corporate clients on complex, high-value claims and coverage disputes, offering excellent exposure to high-profile work and long-term career development. You will join a well-established Professional Indemnity team, handling a broad mix of professional negligence and insurance disputes. This role offers exposure to technically challenging claims as well as strategic advisory work, supporting a diverse client base across multiple industry sectors.

Key responsibilities

  • Managing a caseload of Professional Indemnity matters from instruction through to resolution
  • Advising insurers and insured professionals on liability, coverage, quantum and litigation strategy
  • Handling claims involving a range of professionals including solicitors, accountants, brokers, construction professionals and other regulated advisers
  • Drafting pleadings, witness statements and instructions to counsel
  • Managing court procedures, timetables and compliance requirements
  • Conducting legal research and delivering commercially focused advice
  • Attending mediations, hearings and client meetings where appropriate
  • Supporting senior lawyers on complex, multi‑party and high‑value disputes
  • Building strong client relationships and delivering high-quality service
  • Contributing to business development activities, including client training and seminars
  • Supervising trainees or junior fee earners where appropriate

What you'll need to succeed

  • Qualified solicitor or Chartered Legal Executive with circa 2-6 years' PQE
  • Experience in Professional Indemnity, insurance litigation or commercial disputes
  • Strong understanding of civil procedure and litigation practice
  • Excellent drafting, analytical and negotiation skills
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines effectively
  • Commercial awareness with a strong client-service mindset
  • Confident communicator with strong stakeholder management skills
