Role Description
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Cat B Driver (taxi licence preferred but not essential) to join our Integrated Transport Solutions team. You will support School Transport and public Demand Response Transport services. Under the direction of the Operations Lead Officer, you will undertake quality customer‑focused services that support the Integrated Transport Unit (ITU) and other front‑line services provided by North Somerset Council (NSC). Tasks include operating fleet vehicles on a prearranged, structured schedule to convey passengers or provide public focused front‑line services.
Applicants will be required to undertake training to become licensed taxi drivers, including a taxi test, knowledge of the area, DBS enhanced certification, and the ability to pass a driver medical & driving assessment. All training and costs are provided.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure daily work instructions are acknowledged and both planning and preparations for operational deployment are undertaken.
- Effectively deliver front‑line services to customers in accordance with a journey plan, timetable, and/or a transport manifest, in a timely manner with a customer‑focused professional approach.
- Report issues or client experiences at each engagement in line with agreed protocols and instructions; report any incidents and communicate any variances in accordance with council policy.
- Use ICT equipment/systems and ticket machines provided to allow quality monitoring of the services.
- Maintain a good standard of general education required to demonstrate literacy and numeracy skills.
- Ability to take money or card payments.
- Position, collect, and return council vehicles from multi‑point locations.
- Support services in upkeep, housekeeping, and general maintenance of council assets, such as vehicles, public transport infrastructure, and communal areas.
- Undertake a daily vehicle walk‑around check and report defects or damage.
- Report near‑miss or damage incurred in an accident.
- Maintain a current, valid driving licence (minimum of a Category B) and submit this routinely for review.
- Maintain a valid taxi licence certificate in line with Integrated Transport Solutions.
- Maintain a valid enhanced DBS using the update service.
This position is currently based at our Castlewood offices in Clevedon. The office and depot will be closing in 2026; consultation is underway to determine the new location for colleagues based in Castlewood, likely at Weston‑Super‑Mare or elsewhere in North Somerset.
Work Style
Mobile/Field Worker – primarily remote with occasional office visits for meetings or focused work. Virtual connections with the team are essential, with portable technology supporting work on the go.
