Overview

I am a young woman with cerebral palsy living just outside of Carmarthen. I’m a wheelchair user. I need support with day-to-day tasks and personal care, and support with using my computer and other technology for 10 hours per week. I am ambitious and very determined. I like to be well organised and to work with my personal assistants in an open and honest way. I’d rather that people feel comfortable telling me what they want, and that we are transparent with each other.

Principal duties and responsibilities

  • Supporting the employer with encouragement in gaining independence
  • Supporting the employer to develop independent living skills
  • To provide companionship in the employer’s home, including engaging in conversation with them and providing them with social interaction
  • Encouraging the employer to attend appointments
  • Ensuring the employer’s safety at all times during your working hours
  • To carry out any other reasonable tasks that are requested by the employer during your working hours
  • To ensure compliance with Data Protection Act
  • Be mindful of safeguarding issues, and feedback any concerns to Carmarthenshire County Council immediately on (01267 228751)
  • Be responsible for contacting the GP, Social Worker or Local Authority should the employer need medical assistance
  • To treat the employer’s belongings and house with respect taking care not to damage doors and furniture with equipment

Relationships and communication

  • Ability to develop a supportive and caring relationship with the employer
  • To undertake all duties in a friendly and helpful manner
  • Able to contact people on behalf of the employer when necessary

Working in the employer’s home and supporting them to access facilities and community activities.
