We are seeking a compassionate and reliable 1:1/mentor to provide support for a 20-year-old autistic woman who has PTSD, emetophobia, and anxiety. The ideal candidate should be neurodivergent informed, therapeutic in manner, creative, understanding, and flexible. It is essential for the 1:1/mentor to be adaptable, have a love of animals, possess a driver’s licence, and be able to connect with the whole family.
Some of the individual’s special interests include singing/songwriting, Marvel, Korean culture, and art, and a shared interest would be very welcome. The applicant must possess a clean driver’s licence. The role would be to transport and support the individual to their weekly sessions at Move the Mind (equine therapy) from Portishead to Frome and back (term time). This currently happens fortnightly on a Monday for 4 hours (2+ hours travel, 1 hour session 2-3pm). In the holidays, this may adapt to transporting the individual to pottery painting or time in nature sessions/other interests.
Responsibilities:
- Transporting the individual to weekly ‘Move the Mind’ (equine therapy) sessions from Portishead to Frome and back
- Providing care and support based on the individual’s needs
- Engaging in techniques to assist in coping with various challenges when out
- Creating an understanding, safe and nurturing environment for the individual
- Building a strong and supportive rapport with the individual
Desirable Qualities:
- Experience or knowledge in working with individuals with autism, PTSD, emetophobia, and anxiety
- Empathetic with an understanding of emotional regulation
- Understanding of neurodiversity and various support techniques
- Ability to be patient, compassionate, and empathetic
- Flexibility and adaptability in responding to changing needs
- A valid driver’s licence with a clean driving record
- A love of animals
