To deliver a safe, compliant, and efficient electrical maintenance service across a busy, operational government site. The role includes planned and reactive maintenance, fault finding, and support to project and billable works, ensuring minimal disruption to critical operations and full compliance with statutory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintenance Delivery
- Carry out Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) in line with SFG20, statutory requirements, and contractual obligations.
- Complete reactive maintenance tasks in response to faults, breakdowns, or service requests.
- Ensure all electrical systems are maintained in a safe and fully operational condition.
- Support statutory inspections and ensure compliance with relevant regulations (e.g. BS7671).
- Fault Finding & Repairs
- Diagnose electrical faults across a range of systems including LV distribution, lighting and emergency lighting, power systems and controls.
- Undertake repairs efficiently to restore service with minimal downtime.
- Identify root causes and recommend long‑term solutions where appropriate.
- Billable Works & Projects
- Assist with small works, project delivery, and billable works across the estate.
- Provide technical input for quotations and scopes of work.
- Support installation, upgrades, and system improvements.
- Ensure works are completed to specification, on time, and within budget.
- Compliance & Safety
- Work in accordance with site Health & Safety procedures, permits, and safe systems of work.
- Ensure full compliance with Electricity at Work Regulations and site‑specific control of work processes (e.g. Permit to Work, Authority to Work).
- Accurately complete all documentation and maintain clear audit trails.
- Systems & Reporting
- Update CAFM systems with detailed job notes, completion evidence, and status updates.
- Capture and record all relevant data for PPM completion, reactive works, and billable/chargeable works.
- Highlight risks, non‑compliance, and recurring issues to management.
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
Essential
- Qualified Electrician (e.g., NVQ Level 3 / City & Guilds / equivalent)
- 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS7671)
- Experience delivering PPM and reactive maintenance in a commercial or public sector environment
- Strong fault‑finding and diagnostic capability
- Experience working within a CAFM system
Desirable
- Experience working on government or secure sites
- Knowledge of permit systems and controlled environments
- Experience supporting billable works / small projects
- Basic understanding of compliance frameworks and auditing requirements
Highly Desirable
- HVAC / air conditioning knowledge or experience, particularly in control systems and electrical aspects of HVAC plant
- Working alongside AC engineers
