We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced physiotherapist to join our orthopaedic team at Ormskirk and Southport Hospitals. The successful candidate will work across both sites, primarily at Ormskirk Hospital assessing and treating elective orthopaedic patients, with opportunities to work with trauma patients on both the Southport site and in the post‑operative care ward in Ormskirk. This Band 6 physiotherapy post requires working 37.5 hours per week, covering weekends and bank holidays on a rota, and participating in the Trust’s on‑call respiratory rota.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide high‑standard, evidence‑based care for patients across both elective and trauma orthopaedic pathways.
  • Assess patients, make prompt clinical decisions, and contribute to discharge planning and rehabilitation recommendations.
  • Supervise therapy assistants, rotational physiotherapists, and students on clinical placement.
  • Take part in departmental emergency adult on‑call respiratory rota, with requisite respiratory competency.
  • Engage in audit, benchmarking, and service development activities.
  • Support student placements and be eligible to undertake a clinical educator qualification.
  • Access robust supervision and in‑service training to meet CPD and personal development objectives.

Qualifications and experience

  • Band 5–6 physiotherapists with 18 months postgraduate experience preferred.
  • Excellent clinical skills in trauma and orthopaedics.
  • Strong communication, organisational and time‑management skills.
  • Experience working in an inpatient orthopaedic setting is essential.
  • Evidence of relevant postgraduate training.

  • Primary base at Ormskirk Hospital with flexibility to cover Southport site.
  • Flexible approach to day‑to‑day tasks to meet service demands.
