We are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for a Building Control Officer to join our National Highways Account in the National Highways Regional Control Centre. The role will be based at Newton-le-Willows WA12 0DS and is a site-based position.

Salary: £14.12 per hour.

Working hours: 42 hours per week, Monday to Sunday on a 4 days on / 4 days off rota, day shift 07:00 – 19:00 or night shift 19:00 – 07:00.

What you will do:

  • Perform administrative functions using all Microsoft Office programmes.
  • Communicate with suppliers via email and telephone.
  • Conduct daily site checks and log action findings.
  • Prepare and process site paperwork for attending engineers/operatives to undertake predictive and preventive maintenance (PPMs) and reactive works.
  • Implement first line response to reactive events such as fire alarm activation, power outages, and emergency maintenance callouts.
  • Ensure premises health and safety and COSHH compliance are upheld.
  • React and execute general repairs and maintenance duties when required.
  • Maintain the building and grounds, including sweeping, cleaning, waste management, stocking tea stations and toilet facilities, monitoring stationery levels, and winter gritting.

What you will bring:

  • Strong administrative skills, attention to detail, and efficient filing and record-keeping.
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Verbal, written, and telephone communication competency with a teamwork mindset.
  • Good understanding of health and safety and COSHH requirements within a building environment.
  • Customer relationship skills and the ability to undertake basic building maintenance, handyman, security, or janitorial duties.

  • BPSS security clearance and a willingness to develop additional skills where necessary.
