About the role

Pay Details: Grade 4 £25,989 - £26,403 SP 6-7

Hours of Work / Working Pattern: Full‑time (ability and willingness to work unsociable hours required)

Main Place of Work: The Alps

Description: We are looking to appoint a Stores Operative (Driver / Yard) to provide an efficient and effective stores service based at The Alps, with travel to other locations across the Vale as required. The role involves receiving, storing, issuing and managing materials, maintaining accurate stock records, supporting stock control and ensuring the yard and stores compounds are kept safe, clean and well organised. You will also assist with stock takes, manual handling tasks and deputise for the Stores Supervisor when required. The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining a safe working environment, complying with health and safety legislation, and supporting Environment and Housing Services in delivering essential operational services.

About you

You will need: We are looking for someone who is reliable, motivated and able to work independently while also contributing effectively as part of a team.

You will have:

  • Experience of stores and supply chain operations
  • Experience of stock taking exercises
  • Knowledge of stock control software
  • Good knowledge of building materials
  • Working knowledge of relevant health and safety legislation
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills
  • Excellent verbal and good written communication skills
  • A positive, self‑motivated “can‑do” attitude
  • Good time management skills and the ability to prioritise workloads

You will be flexible, adaptable, confident in problem‑solving and committed to delivering a high standard of service in line with the Council’s values.
