This is an exciting opportunity to work across a diverse and vibrant curriculum that includes Art & Design, Digital Arts, Digital Technologies, Music and Performing Arts.

The role has been created to ensure continuity of learning and maintain an exceptional student experience during periods of staff absence.

Cover Lecturer opportunity

We’re looking for a flexible, learner-focused Cover Lecturer to join our college team. This is a unique and rewarding role where no two days are the same. You'll step in to deliver and support planned learning across a range of courses, ensuring continuity, stability, and a positive experience for learners.

Your impact will be immediate. Whether guiding a session, supporting learner confidence, or helping maintain momentum, you'll be a reassuring, engaging presence in the classroom—someone learners quickly come to trust and respond to.

What you'll do:

  • Deliver engaging learning; deliver planned lessons and learning activities, adapting materials to meet the needs of learners; create a positive, inclusive, and respectful learning environment; use your skills and confidence to keep learners engaged.
  • Support learner progress; provide clear guidance, instruction and feedback to support understanding and development; monitor learner participation and progress, raising any concerns appropriately; reinforce learning through activities that build confidence and capability.
  • Be a consistent and supportive presence; build positive relationships with learners, supporting both academic and personal development; help maintain high expectations around attendance, behaviour and engagement; contribute to a safe, supportive and inclusive learning environment for all.
  • Work collaboratively; follow existing plans and work closely with curriculum teams to ensure continuity; share feedback on sessions and contribute to improvements where appropriate; support wider college activities such as recruitment events and learner engagement initiatives; uphold quality and standards; maintain accurate records where required; promote and uphold safeguarding, equality, and health and safety policies; contribute to a culture of continuous improvement.

What we’re looking for:

  • Relevant sector knowledge, industry experience, or experience supporting learning.
  • Level 2 English and Maths (e.g. GCSE grade C/4 or equivalent).
  • The ability to engage and motivate learners from a wide range of backgrounds; building rapport quickly and confidently with different groups.
  • A flexible and adaptable approach; you thrive on variety and can confidently step into the unexpected.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; approachable, positive, and able to read a room and respond in the moment.
  • Confidence in managing learning environments and responding to changing situations.
  • A proactive, positive mindset and willingness to take initiative.
  • A commitment to safeguarding, equality, and ongoing professional development.
  • A teaching qualification or experience in education is welcome, but not essential; we’re equally interested in individuals with the right attitude, potential, and passion for supporting learners to succeed.

Why this role matters

As a Cover Lecturer, you are key to ensuring that learning never stops. You bring energy, stability and encouragement when it’s needed most—helping learners stay confident, supported and on track to achieve their goals. This is a role where your personality, presence and adaptability make all the difference.

Safeguarding

NCG is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people, and vulnerable adults. All roles are subject to pre-employment checks, including an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check with a check of the children's barred list, where applicable.

Why work with us?
