A personal assistant role supporting an individual with autism in a Merthyr Tydfil community setting. The assistant will provide encouragement and assistance for daily activities and community participation.

Purpose of the Job

Support the individual to access community activities, prompt and remind them of tasks, and provide reassurance. Advocate when needed, but encourage independence.

Hours of Work

4 hours per week, with flexibility for sickness and holidays by prior arrangement.

Rate of Pay

£12.75 per hour (double pay for bank holidays covered); Mileage paid at 40p per mile up to 60 miles a week.

Tasks / Duties

  • Encourage participation in new activities
  • Accompany to current activities the individual enjoys
  • Participate in activities together
  • Drive to desired locations
  • Drop off at work placement or course as required
  • Ensure safety at all times
  • Support expression of needs and wants during outings
  • Encourage speaking for themselves when appropriate
  • Prompt memory of important things

About the Job

Although part-time, this position requires a National Insurance number. A trial period of six months is required. Salary is paid four weekly by BACS transfer from the Dewis Centre for Independent Living. Paid holiday is 5.6 weeks pro rata. A DBS check must be applied for at no expense to the candidate.
