Our client, a growing Main Contractor with a strong pipeline of secured work, is looking to appoint a Quantity Surveyor to join their Fire & Security division based in Oldham. This is an excellent opportunity for a developing QS who is a few years post‑university, although candidates with less commercial experience but a strong Fire & Security background will also be considered. The business works with a range of blue‑chip food retail clients and currently has a busy, expanding division with a supportive and collaborative team environment.
The Role
Working within a small commercial team, the successful candidate will support the financial and contractual management of projects from award through to final account. Key responsibilities will include:
- Reviewing and interpreting contract terms and conditions
- Placing and managing subcontractor and supplier orders
- Managing variations and valuing additional works
- Completing and agreeing final accounts
- Producing monthly commercial reporting and CVRs
- Negotiating rates and variations with subcontractors
- Identifying and managing commercial risk
- Supporting value engineering exercises
- Assisting with cost control and project profitability
Pre‑construction responsibilities will be minimal, as the Project Managers undertake the estimating function.
Candidate Requirements
The ideal candidate will:
- Be at Surveyor level with circa 2-4 years post‑graduate experience OR come from a Fire & Security background with transferable commercial experience
- Have strong commercial awareness and communication skills
- Be organised and capable of managing multiple projects/workstreams
- Have experience administering contracts and managing subcontractors
- Be keen to develop within a busy and growing division
The Team & Business
Small, close‑knit commercial team with excellent support structure. Around 30 employees across the wider division, from administration through to Directors. Strong workload and long‑term pipeline of projects. Hybrid working flexibility available.
