About this job:
We are seeking Residential Support Workers to help set up our own residential children’s home within the Merthyr Tydfil County Borough. This is an exciting time to join the local authority as we begin to establish a residential arm to support some of the children and young people in our care.
As a Residential Support Worker, you will be integral in providing a safe and secure environment in which our children and young people will live. You will support them to reach their full potential by providing them with opportunities to thrive. This will involve:
- Providing emotional and social support
- Managing challenging behaviour
- Developing an understanding of early childhood trauma and its impact on the young people in our care
The role involves supporting, as a staff team, the direct day-to-day care of children in all aspects of their life: daily routines, education attendance, activities, hobbies and community involvement. You will be expected to undertake domestic and household tasks as well as attending appointments and maintaining contact with family and friends.
The young people are cared for on a 24 hour basis and you will be required to work some sleep-in shifts, on a rota basis, to support this. You will be required to provide evidence of all qualifications specified as essential.
Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council is committed to protecting and safeguarding the most vulnerable people in our community. We welcome applications from everyone and encourage applicants from all groups and backgrounds to apply and join us at Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council. We are strongly committed to eradicating discrimination in the workplace and ensure that no unlawful discrimination occurs in the recruitment and selection process on the grounds of age, disability, sex, race, sexual orientation, marriage and civil partnership, religion or belief, gender identity and expression, and pregnancy and maternity.
