Role Summary

The Training Programme Director in Obstetrics & Gynaecology ST3-5 will support the Head of School in the strategic development of the School of Obstetrics & Gynaecology. The role covers Greater Manchester and Lancashire & South Cumbria region and includes leading the development of the School’s Recruitment and Retention Strategy, supporting the School Operational Programme, and serving as a member of the School Board.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of the School’s Recruitment and Retention Strategy and support the School Operational Programme.
  • Serve as a member of the School Board.
  • Oversee the specialty’s regional training programme.
  • Manage specialty‑specific matters and trainee/trainer concerns.
  • Recruit to training posts and programmes.
  • Manage postgraduate programme, including assessments, progression, rotations, support and remediation, OOP management, trainee management and careers support, less‑than‑full‑time training, inter‑deanery transfer, academic training and related work‑streams.
  • Ensure both national standards and guidelines established within O&G are met.
  • Improve learner supervision, assessment and experience, engage faculty, drive workforce transformation and develop multi‑professional links.

Qualifications

Experienced NHS Consultant with a thorough understanding of O&G training across the region. Strong leadership and communication skills, and ability to work effectively as a member of a multi‑professional team.

Additional Information

Appointment is on a secondment basis; applicants from within the NHS must obtain agreement from their employer prior to submitting the application. Inter Authority Transfer (IAT) will be initiated via the Electronic Staff Record (ESR) for NHS employees. Contractual office‑base employees are expected to spend, on average, at least 40% of their time in our offices. All educator recruitment activity will conclude on 31 March 2027 (subject to review beyond this date).
